BERLIN TO HOST ROUND 2 OF THE 2023 UCI TRACK CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

The Berlin Velodrom is the final host location to be confirmed for the 2023 season with the other rounds taking place in Mallorca, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and London.

28 July 2023 – Berlin, Germany: With exactly three months to go, Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe has confirmed Round 2 of the UCI Track Champions League will take place at the Berlin Velodrom.

The venue – located in the Prenzlauer Berg locality of the German capital – is back for the second UCI Track Champions League season in a row, hosting second-round action on Saturday 28th October.

The Berlin Velodrom is the fourth and final venue to be unveiled for the 2023 season, with Round 1 taking place in Mallorca, Spain (Saturday 21st October), Round 3 in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France (Saturday 4th November), and Rounds 4 and 5 (the Grand Finale) being held in London, Great Britain, on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th November respectively.

Last season saw an incredible night of UCI Track Champions League action in Berlin as Katie Archibald secured back-to-back victories in the Women’s Endurance races, and Matthew Richardson and Harrie Lavreysen continued their titanic battle in the Men’s Sprint League.

Florian Pavia, Series Director of the UCI Track Champions League, said: “Germany has such a long and rich track cycling heritage. The supporters are real connoisseurs of the sport and the German athletes are heroes to the fans. Last year did not completely go to plan on the track for the German riders. So I’m sure the German team will be even more motivated this season and want to put on a show in front of their home crowd on Saturday 28th October.”

David Lappartient, UCI President, said: “With the revelation of the final venue, we now have a concrete vision of this year’s UCI Track Champions League. Previous international events at Berlin’s Velodrom – including two UCI Track World Championships and the second round of last year’s UCI Track Champions League – have always produced exceptional racing and this year will be no exception. The calendar is finalised, and we can only look forward to the excitement that awaits in four prestigious venues next October and November.”

Kristina Vogel, 17-time UCI World Champion, two-time Olympic Champion, and official UCI Track Champions League ambassador, said: “The Berlin Velodrom feels like home to me and I have so many happy memories from competing on that track. Its first appearance in the 2022 UCI Track Champions League proved a huge success and I am very excited we will be back there this October with the world’s best riders battling it out in front of incredible German support.”

Martin Wolf, President of the German Cycling Federation (BDR) said: “After the successful international events that we have hosted in Berlin in recent years, we are proud to welcome the best track cyclists in our capital again this year. For the fans on site as well as the viewers at home in front of the streams, this will certainly be a cycling festival of a very special kind again.”
